MILESTONE: Workers at TN Plant Achieve 20 Million Man Hours Without a Lost Time Injury

Watts Bar 2

Some remarkable safety-related news out of Tennessee where the Project Team at the Watts Bar 2 Completion Project has announced, get this, 20 million hours worked without a lost time injury (LTI).

LTI’s are defined as occurring when a person injured in the execution of his/her duties is unable to perform his/her regular duties for one full shift the following day.

The announcement comes via the Labor Relations Manager of Bechtel Construction Company (the contractor on the project):

I’m pleased to announce that WBN 2 has successfully achieved a new safety milestone: 20 million man hours without a lost time injury.

Very few projects achieve a milestone of this magnitude; even fewer workers have the opportunity to be a part of an accomplishment like this. To put this milestone in perspective, the date of the last lost time injury at WBN 2 was March 10, 2010 — over 1,000 work days ago.

WBN 2 is a union-built and maintained project of the Tennessee Valley Authority, “a corporation owned by the U.S. government [which] provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average.”
