From the Boston Herald:

Nearly 700 union-sponsored scholarships totaling close to $1 million were bestowed to graduating high school seniors this year to further their education without economic worry.

The recipients and their families were honored last night at the Massachusetts AFL-CIO’s 53rd annual Scholarship Banquet in Dorchester. Recipients took an exam on the Labor Movement and its contributions to American history and its impact on the American economy, society and quality of life.

Since 1999, close to $10.5 million has been awarded by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.
