In the wake of the 2008 recession, with attacks on labor taking shape in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Florida, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245 made a commitment to the youngest members of their union. They pulled together a core group of organizing stewards to spread the word about issues that affect workers in each state, taking the pro-union message to the various battlefields of the war on organized labor and assisting in swaying public opinion in favor of union causes.

The organizing and training new generation of union workers could be a major asset to other unions if they follow this model.

In this video about the development of this idea and program, Local 1245 Business Manager Tom Dalzell praises the growth of the individuals involved, saying, “They are doing things they never thought they would ever be doing in their lifetimes and they are doing them really well.”
