Local 423, an affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), has donated $5 million to Ohio State University. The donation comes as part of the Ohio Scholarship Challenge. Local 423’s gift will be matched by the college, effectively doubling the contribution.

Both the union and the university are excited about the positive impact the contribution will have. The school’s news website wrote about the charitable act:

“There is nothing more important to our university than providing our students with access to an affordable, excellent education,” said Ohio State President Michael V. Drake. “We are grateful to the members of Local 423 for their generous gift, which will help countless young Buckeyes realize their educational and professional dreams.”

Local 423’s members are excited about their gift’s impact on Ohio State students: “It is with great pleasure that we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of future generations. We hope that many students’ dreams will be realized with our donation.”

Local 423 represents hundreds of construction workers in and around Columbus, OH. Their gift to Ohio State is the largest in the Ohio Scholarship Challenge.
