Scott Walker Slammed for Comparing Union Members to ISIS. Even Rick Perry is In On the Action.

Honeymoon’s over, Scooter.

Wisconsin’s full-time presidential candidate and part-time governor, Scott Walker, may have eclipsed the inanity of his evolution punt and ‘Obama might not be Christian’ moments by yesterday comparing Wisconsin protestors to ISIS.

The incredible blunder during his CPAC remarks has even resulted in condemnation from Mr. Anti-Union himself, former Texas Governor Rick Perry:

“These are Americans,” Perry said in an interview after Walker made the comments at the Conservative Political Action Conference early Thursday evening. “You are talking about, in the case of ISIS, people who are beheading individuals and committing heinous crimes, who are the face of evil. To try to make the relationship between them and the unions is inappropriate.”

Naturally, labor unions and their members seized on the absurdity, generating memes and pushing the story overnight. It appears to be the only news story able to compete with yesterday’s llama chase and debate about the color of #TheDress.

Walker & Co. suggested the remark was an off-the-cuff error, but Slate writer Alec Macgillis isn’t buying it:

In fact, though, this was no mere one-off overstatement or slip of the tongue on Walker’s part. Just last week, at the New York event where former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said that President Obama did not love America, Walker made a similar remark comparing the fight against ISIS and the union protests.

Macgillis quotes a Larry Kudlow piece:

Noteworthy, Walker argued that when Reagan fired the PATCO air-traffic controllers over their illegal strike, he was sending a message of toughness to Democrats and unions at home as well as to our Soviet enemies abroad. Similarly, Walker believes his stance against unions in Wisconsin would be a signal of toughness to Islamic jihadists and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

People who know and object to Scott Walker already consider him too much like Putin and other leaders who take unAmerican, dictatorial action. His campaign approach appears to involve getting everyone else to feel that way as well.
