IUPAT DC 35 Reaches Out for Support for 18-Year Old Girl Injured in Boston Bombings

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 35 family is coming together to help a brother whose family was directly affected by the Boston Marathon bombings:

Celeste and Sydney Corcoran, were badly injured in the blasts at the Boston Marathon on 4/15/13. Sydney, 18, suffered severe injuries and deep arterial damage to her right leg as a result of being hit with shrapnel and Celeste, Sydney’s mother, has lost both her legs below the knee. Celeste and Sydney are the niece and great-niece of Claude Boisvert, an employee of Save-On-Walls, Inc., Hudson, NH, and a proud member of DC #35 and LU #577, and his wife, Dorothy (Corcoran) Boisvert.

Sydney, with her mother, Celeste, and father Kevin, were in Boston to watch her aunt, Celeste’s sister, Carmen, finish her first marathon. Kevin received minor shrapnel injuries, but otherwise was physically okay. Kevin and Celeste’s son, Tyler, was supposed to attend also, but at the last minute, had a change of plans.

The family has recently been plagued by medical expenses. Sydney had been in an accident in the Summer of 2011 that she fought hard to recover from:

While crossing a busy street at Salisbury Beach in June 2011, Sydney was struck by a car driven by a senior citizen. The accident left her with severe injuries, including a fractured skull. But Sydney, 18, a Lowell High School senior bound for Middlesex Community College this fall, dug deep and fought valiantly to preserve her young life. Family members breathed sighs of relief, hoping they would never have to relive such a nightmare.

Now, Sydney must make the journey again. IUPAT DC 35 is asking members of all unions to share this story and contribute where possible using (Celeste and Sydney Recovery Fund) or this address:
