UA Local 91, Central Alabama Building Tradesmen Aid Tornado Victims in Clean Up Effort

In late April, tornadoes swept through the state of Alabama, taking the lives of more than 400 people. The devastation has been graphic and deeply saddening as blood has flown through the beating heart of dixie.

But union members have come to the aid of those who have seen their homes and lives smothered by Mother Nature’s swirling strikes, and the Locust Fork News-Journal has supplied a nice video piece documenting some of those efforts.

During the video, UA Local 91’s John Eaves pledges the union’s commitment to the clean up effort:

“We started this morning, at eight o’clock, and it’s a blitz by the union Building Trades of Central Alabama, and this particular house that we’re at today…when the people heard the tornado come they jumped under a table in their garage. Fortunately for him and his two dogs, they were trapped for a couple hours, but they were not injured.

There’s over 100 Building Trades members and that’s just a drop in the bucket of the ones that’ll be here in the weeks to come. The Central Alabama Building Trades is gonna be here for the long haul, we’ll be here for four months, six months, however long it takes to help clean our community up.”

United Steelworkers Local 2122 have been active as well. Hat-tip to @RickSmithShow for finding this clip.
